This movie tells the story of The
Tuskegee Airmen, a special unit of African Americans who were trained to fly and
maintain combat planes in World War II. George Lucas had been working on this
movie for 11 years, collecting the stories of these particular veteran
frantically, before they died. To hasten its creation, it was funded entirely
with his own $58 million dollars.
AND - one of the Tuskegee airmen was Dr. Robert Garrison, who received his Medical Degree from Ohio State. He was Hired by Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, in 1958 and opened his own practice in Muskegon that same year. Dr. Garrison died in 2003. http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2012/01/red_tail_movie_commemorating_t.html Dr. Fred Johnson is an award-winning public speaker and a U.S. Marine Veteran with Ohio roots (Ph.D. from Kent State) He will lead a discussion following our viewing of the WWII movie, RED TAILS. Fred is a history professor at Hope College, a novelist and a passionate advocate for recognition of these unsung air-warriors from Tuskegee. One of his courses at Hope is MILITARY HISTORY: RISE OF A WARRIOR DEMOCRACY. Please join us for a fun, educational and inspiring afternoon! Get your tickets while they are available!! |
