OSUAA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Let fellow Buckeyes find you: Check your game-watch locations
Local Buckeyes might be looking for your game-watch party. Please check the Web site to make sure the correct location is listed for your area game-watch locations. If there are any changes for this year, please report them to Susan at long@ohiostatealumni.org. After your events, please remember to report your attendance numbers to Susan and send event pictures to Craig or Kimberly. The OSUAA Web site will also be the place to look for any bowl game updates.
New official Ohio State app: Buckeyes Unite
Designed by an Ohio State alumnus, the Buckeyes Unite app allows you to check in wherever you are across the country and find fellow Buckeyes to watch the game with. Get badges for visiting Buckeye Bashes and new stadiums. This is a great tool to advertise your local game watch. Have your group check in on Buckeyes Unite so visiting Buckeyes can more easily find you. To download Buckeyes Unite for free, visit the iTunes app store or the Android Market.

Highlighted programs
Each month in Nutshell we highlight unique program ideas or programs of general interest to all alumni in the area.
- The Lucas and Wood County Alumni clubs again have the privilege of hosting the Ohio State Marching Band in concert on Friday, Nov. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the Stranahan Theater in Toledo. Proceeds from the concert benefit the clubs' endowment funds.
- The OSUAA Cooking for the Holidays event is sold out, but consider having a night of cooking demonstrations (and eating), led by a local restaurant staff or gourmet group member.
Success strategies for uncertain times
Business coach Dan Sullivan, who sees uncertain times as opportunities for growth and positive change, recently shared these 10 strategies for success:
- Forget about yourself and focus on others.
- Forget about your product, service, or job; and focus on your relationships with family, friends, coworkers, and clients.
- Forget about the sale and focus on creating value.
- Forget about your losses and focus on your opportunities.
- Forget about your difficulties and focus on your progress.
- Forget about the future and focus on today.
- Forget about who you were, and focus on who you can be.
- Forget about events; focus on your responses.
- Forget about what's missing; focus on what's available.
- Forget about your complaints; focus on your gratitude.

RESEARCH NEWS
Researchers aim to build dust library
Researchers recently isolated 63 unique dust particles from their laboratory—and that's just the beginning. The chemists were testing a new kind of sensor when dust got stuck inside it, and they discovered that they could measure the composition of single dust particles. In a recent issue of The Journal of Physical Chemistry C, they describe how the discovery could aid the study of respiratory diseases caused by airborne particles. http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/dustlib.htm
Preschoolers' language skills improve when placed with more-skilled peers
Preschool children with relatively poor language skills improve more if they are placed in classrooms with high-achieving students, a new study found. Researchers found that children with relatively poor language skills either didn't improve over the course of one academic year, or actually lost ground in development of language skills, when they were placed with other low-achieving students. http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/preklang.htm
The "freshman 15" is just a myth, nationwide study reveals
Contrary to popular belief, most college students don't gain anywhere near 15 pounds during their freshman year, according to a new nationwide study. Rather than adding "the freshman 15," as it is commonly called, the average student gains between about 2.5 and 3.5 pounds during the first year of college. http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/freshman15.htm
