OSUAA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Club and society football ticket lists
OSUAA lottery and season ticket information is now downloaded into our system. If you have your list ready for verification and confirmation, please submit to Craig Little; otherwise your list is due by July 23. It is very important to enter OSUAA ID numbers as completely as possible. These are the 9-digit numbers followed by a capital “I.” Remember, you cannot confirm ticket requests with your club/society members until we have checked the list and written back to you.
If any of your confirmed ticket recipients need ADA seating, we MUST have their specific needs in writing from you regarding wheelchair access or other ADA needs. This is a tremendous help to the ticket office when they pull those tickets for you before they send you your block. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us at (614) 292-2371.
ALC 2010–It Starts with U!
Approximately 300 alumni club and society leaders will come to Columbus for a power-packed day of training, networking, and recognition at this year's ALC, Oct. 8 at the new Ohio Union. Go to www.ohiostatealumni.org/resources/clubs-societies/Pages/AlumniLeadersConference.aspx for pricing, schedule, and tentative topics. Early bird pricing is available from July 26–Aug. 22. A limited number of tickets is available for the OSU vs. Indiana football game on Oct. 9 if you attend ALC. (If you have season tickets or received this game in the OSUAA lottery, you will not be eligible for game tickets.) We are excited for you to see the new union and to have the opportunity to strengthen our alumni clubs and societies.
Reserve your vendor table for the next Alumni Leaders Conference
Space will be available for clubs and societies to sell items to raise money for their scholarship funds at ALC. There are several breaks in the conference schedule for Ohio State fanatics to visit your table and shop. If you'd like to sign up as a vendor, please contact Leslie Smith at lsmith@ohiostatealumni.org . The fee is $25, which covers the cost of the table and linen.
Football season is approaching: Check your game-watch locations
The 2011 Buckeye football season kicks off Sept.2 with the game against Marshall. Please check the Web site to make sure the correct location is listed for your area game-watch locations. If there are any changes for this year, please report them to Susan at long@ohiostatealumni.org . And as always, please continue to report event attendance numbers to Susan.
Increase your scholarship endowment through online giving
Direct online giving is now available for your club or society through the Ohio State Development Web site at https://www.giveto.osu.edu/igive/onlinegiving/category/alumni_association.aspx?num=107 . Donors will be able to give to your scholarship or endowment fund and receive a tax credit from the university. If you would like to have your fund added, please contact Courtney Shenk at shenk@ohiostatealumni.org.
Alumni club and society leaders: Please send updated information
We need to have each of the following on file for all alumni groups:
1. Updated membership roster
2. Copy of your group's bylaws
3. JPG file of your group's logo (if applicable)
Please send these to Kimberly Lowe at lowe@ohiostatealumn i.org or Craig Little at little@ohiostatealumni.org . Thanks to those who have already submitted these materials.

RESEARCH NEWS
Youth clubs strengthen kids’ self-images to keep them out of trouble When children belong to youth clubs, they gain a stronger sense of who they are as people, an Ohio State study has revealed. The study suggests that even small improvements in self-concept go a long way toward keeping children out of trouble. “The more kids participate in these clubs, the better self-concepts they have,” said Dawn Anderson-Butcher, an associate professor of social work at Ohio State. “And then that self-concept makes children less vulnerable to engaging in problem behaviors.” http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/yclubs.htm
Bars, restaurants in two cities see no significant employment change under smoking ban
The passage of smoking bans in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, was not associated with job losses at bars and may in fact have contributed to higher employment in restaurants, according to new Ohio State research. The study is the first to examine the economic effects of clean indoor air policies on bars and restaurants as independent types of businesses, the researchers said. Consistent with previous published studies of the economic impact of smoking bans, this analysis did not find significant economic effects on the hospitality industry. http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/indoorair.htm
High-performance engineering used to design facial bone replacements Scientists are using the engineering technology behind the creation of high-performance aircraft components to design 3-D models for the replacement of delicate and complex facial bones lost to cancer surgery or trauma. The researchers, combining engineering and plastic surgery expertise, have used a computational technique called topological optimization to design an experimental 3-D structure that can withstand the forces of chewing, facilitate speaking and swallowing, and replace large portions of the facial skeleton. The work is focused on the center of the face, home to the most complicated bony structures in the human head. http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive/facialbone.htm
